Something In My Genes was recorded by Saracuse during their final session at Bedrock Studios in Leicester on 21 September 2000.

In Sound, Movement and Empire, Joe Shooman lists the song under the title Some Fingz In My Jeans and describes it as a relatively straightforward rock track.

Bedrock producer Scott Gilbert recalled the song in particular because of Tom Meighan’s pronunciation. Saracuse’s manager Alan Rawlings repeatedly attempted to correct Tom’s pronunciation of “things”, while Gilbert remembered Tom’s Leicester accent remaining clearly audible on the recording. Gilbert later commented that Tom’s distinctive vocal style could already be heard strongly on these early demos.
