Meanwhile… In Genova is the opening track on Sergio Pizzorno’s debut solo album, THE S.L.P., released on 30 August 2019.
The song is the first part of a three-track “Meanwhile…” sequence which provides the beginning, middle and end of the album. The pieces originated from music Serge had composed for an unused film score.
Serge has described his fascination with the way film soundtracks reuse recurring melodies in different forms to help tell a story. He used the three Meanwhile tracks in the same way, with the remaining songs on the album filling in the journey between them.
Genova also has a personal significance for Serge. His father’s family originates from Genoa, and Serge described the track as a love letter to the city and to his Italian roots.
The melody later returns in Meanwhile… At the Welcome Break and Meanwhile… In The Silent Nowhere.

The vocal version was released as part of DEATH STRANDING: Timefall (Original Music from the World of Death Stranding), a collection of songs created in connection with Hideo Kojima’s 2019 video game Death Stranding.
The original album version of Meanwhile… In Genova forms the opening part of Sergio Pizzorno’s three-track “Meanwhile…” sequence and was conceived as part of an abandoned film score. For the Death Stranding version, the same cinematic composition was developed into a vocal track.
Meanwhile… In Genova was one of eight tracks included on the Timefall album, alongside songs by artists including CHVRCHES, Bring Me The Horizon, Major Lazer and The Neighbourhood.
