Same Old Story was recorded as an acoustic demo during Saracuse’s final session at Bedrock Studios on 21 September 2000.

The song was recorded while the band waited for drummer Ben Kealy to arrive at the studio. Scott Gilbert recalled that the band would use this downtime to record acoustic material while the drums were being prepared.

In Sound, Movement and Empire, Joe Shooman describes Same Old Story as typical of Saracuse’s writing at the time, combining melody with themes of regret and hope.

No recording of the track is known to have surfaced.
