Lost Soul was recorded as an acoustic demo during Saracuse’s final session at Bedrock Studios on 21 September 2000.

The song features vocals from Serge Pizzorno and explores the relationship between music and his own sense of identity. In Sound, Movement and Empire, Joe Shooman describes the lyrics as presenting music as Serge’s soul while simultaneously expressing the feeling that the soul itself is lost.

Shooman notes that the title would later be reused for an entirely different piece of music, while the original Lost Soul itself would resurface in a very similar form under another title. The song eventually developed into I.D..

No recording of the original Saracuse track is known to have surfaced.
