The Youngest Gary is the tenth track on THE S.L.P. and was released ahead of the album on 2 August 2019.
The title came from a story a friend told Serge claiming that the youngest person in Britain named Gary was around 28 years old. Although Serge later described the claim as complete nonsense, he liked the absurdity of the title and used it as the starting point for the song.
The song features a sample from the Turkish group Cici Kızlar, taken from the track “Gencim, Yaşamı Severim” (“I’m Young, I Love Life”), from the 1975 release Gençlik ve Vakko İçin Söylüyorlar. The sampled lyric is “Gencim, renkli yaşamı severim”, meaning roughly “I’m young, I love a colourful life.”
